Structures Common to Inserts
There is no ‘one fit all’ solution when it comes to bespoke box inserts. To secure each product, the insert needs to be structured based on the size, weight, and position of the products. Here are a few examples of insert structures to give you a sense of what to expect.
Structure for Custom Inserts Packaging Without Backing
Insert for Box (No Backing)
Products that do not need to be elevated can sit directly on the box’s base. The same type of insert can also be used with similar-size products.
Structure and Backing for Custom Box Inserts
Insert for the Box (with backing)
In most cases. The insert is used to secure products of the same size or similar size that require an elevated fit. Failure to do so will result in the products falling through.
Multiple backings for Paper Based Inserts
Box Inset (multiple backings)
The most common use for corrugated inserts is to elevate products of different sizes in order to fit securely within. As a result, the backings are tailored to fit the product size and will not fall through the inserts.
Box Inserts Made to Order: Technical Specifications
Custom boxes inserts can be customized in a variety of ways.
The Corrugated Material
There are wavy lines on the inside of cardboard that make it stronger and more durable. A corrugated insert is most commonly used to cushion or protect items that are heavier, fragile, or are going to be shipped.
The Electronic Elute
The most common option, with a flute thickness of 1.2-2mm.
The B Flute
Flute thickness is usually around 2.5-3mm, ideal for heavy boxes and items. Corrugated board is glued to these base materials after the designs are printed on them. A minimum of 50 percent of the materials are post-consumer waste (recycled).
Paper in White
An ideal cookie tray packaging wholesale insert biscuit material for printed applications is Clay Coated News Back (CCNB).
Traditional Brown Kraft Paper
Unbleached brown Kraft paper is perfect for black or white print when it comes to custom boxes inserts.
Printing
Colors on packaging are much brighter and vibrant thanks to special ink.
CMYK & Pantone Comparison
CMYK
There are many color systems used in printing. But CMYK is one of the most popular and cost-effective.
Pantone
It is more expensive than CMYK and is required for accurate branding.
Coating
Scuffs and scratches can be prevented by coating your printed designs.
Lamination vs. Varnish
Varnish
The coating is eco-friendly. But it does not offer the same level of protection as lamination.
Lamination
You can protect your designs from cracks and tears with this plastic coated layer. But it is not environmentally friendly.
Finishes
Add a finishing touch to your packaging inserts.
Finishes Comparison
Matte
A non-reflective, smooth surface is ideal for creating a softer look for packaging insert trays.
Glossy
The surface is shiny and reflective, making it more susceptible to fingerprints.
Satin
Almost matte, but not quite glossy.
Soft Touch
It is pretty similar to a matte finish. But actually feels like velvet.
